FINGER PRINT

While on the run, Hameed was forcibly fingerprinted at the Bulgarian border. For a year he lived in Sofia, always in fear of deportation. Three times he was lucky enough to evade the police officers when they wanted to bring him over the border in the early morning. For months he would live without an ID card, with nothing but the so called "white paper," a certificate to permit crossing of the border.

After a year, the fingerprint - enabling deportation according to the Dublin summit - is no longer valid. Hameed does have an ID card now. As the well-meaning clerk at the Foreigners' Office told him: "From now on we will treat you as if you newly arrived in Germany." The procedure for granting the right of asylum starts anew. However, Hameed has mixed feelings about his situation. Even though there is a huge relief he feels robbed of one year of his life.

In 2015, Dachil created the fingerprint logo. For special occasions - such as the opening ceremony at the museum for European cultures - it was stamped on clothes taken from clothing distribution.
