"Making a world the way I like it"*

"Last night - my head and teeth hurt so much because of that workshop." Khaled's remark, followed by the movement of his hand when caressing the left side of his face, is alarming.

We're walking together from Berlin's Museum für Europäische Kulturen to the subway station. "You know, we have been laughing so hard that whole day. Really," the 12 year old adds, "we have been laughing soooo hard, that my head and teeth hurt during the night." I am reassured.

During the week Sham, Khaled, Fatime, Valdrina and Valentina, Brisilda, Ali, Mohammad and Tasnim, Mohammed and Zaijn attended the museum's summer camp. "Making a world the way I like it" was the slogan and it made Mohammed transform a folding boat into an airship and hang it into a tree in the museum's garden. The Syrian boy's invention - that very same boy who would criss-cross the desert of Sudan together with his mother and brother, and who would survive the boat trip across the Mediterranean - takes after Pippi Longstocking's Myskodil, that famous hot air balloon with her bed serving as the gondola. Pippi and her friends would take it to fly to Taka-Tuka island.

I have being trying to come up with a word to describe that parallelism and finally decide on "Overlapping Reality." Only to find that expression again in an essay called "Death of Reality." A rough translation of its definition would be: "Overlapping realities: Elements from one level of reality end up in another level. It is obvious that those elements originate from a different world."

Safaa, Laura and Serjo came along with the young gang of game designers during the week.
Become a spectactor of the theaterplay performed by Khaled, Sham and Ali.

Their participation was enabled by Verein der Freunde des Museums Europäischer Kulturen e.V.

*The workshop was based on the famous childrens book Pippi Langstrumpf by Astrid Lindgren
