Josef Schütz

was born in Platten/Horní Blatná (from 1918 Bergstadt Platten) in the Erzgebirge in Bohemia on 20/5/1911. After he had finished school, he began a three-year apprenticeship as a confectioner in Neudek/Nejdek in 1927, and then followed this up with a baker’s apprenticeship at his father's, Franz Schütz. From 1934 Josef Schütz was self-employed with his own confectio­nery shop. On 22/4/1940 he was drafted into the Wehrmacht (German Armed Forces). ln the same year he married Theresia Entian in Vienna.

From the end of the war until 6/12/1949 he was interned in a Russian prisoner of war camp; then he was released via the repatriate camp in Gronenfelde near Frankfurt/Oder. He reached the community of Deiningen where his parents and his wife had landedas "Heimatvertriebene" (persons expelled from their home countries). In 1950 Josef and Theresia Schütz moved to Ichenhausen in the district of Günzburg, where he found employment in a glove factory.

It was not until 1956 that he was able to work as a confectioner again. In 1961 he passed his masters examination in confectionery craft at the Chamber of Crafts in Augsburg. Josef Schütz died in Krumbach on 26/4/2000.
