Homework

Ruba, Housam, Khaled, Sham and Nour have been with us - day in and out - during those first months at daHEIM. Without Khaled's approach to philosophy KUNSTASYL would not be KUNSTASYL. The asylum procedure would take nine months, followed by four months of apartment hunting. Finally the family could move into their own flat. They left us some time between Easter and Whitsunday. However, they live close by, only two stops by underground.

For the last days  before the family left back to Bosnia, Ramiza, Zlatan, and Vanesa moved into room 10 on the other side of the hallway. Lately, Pranvera, Laura, and Serxhio from Tirana have been living there. Anatol, Tatjana, and Anatol from Moldowa share room 11.

We stayed in touch with the Mounem family. Occasionally, Sham and Khaled come to visit. The family takes part in all our events. Whatsapp keeps us in the loop.

At 8:27 pm my phone buzzes. I ignore it. It is still 8:27 pm when it buzzes again, and at 8:28 pm my smart phone Galaxy crawls across my kitchen table like a landing UFO.

Three pictures show up on the display, each with the title "common era" and "small dictionary to the solar system". They remind me of Ruba's textbook to learn German with words such as Gabelstaplerfahrer (fork truck driver), Betriebsrat (workers' council), and Teilzeitkraft (part-time worker) - each of them a horrid word.

"Please help with solution, position," it says underneath.

And finally "homework."

Serxhio lebt mit seiner Mutter Pranvera (im Hintergrund) und seiner Schwester Laura seit einigen Wochen Raum No 10. Die Familie stammt aus Tirana. Neben Serxhio im Bild: Latif, Fuad, Valbona.
